Currency, Banks and Banking Hours
Greece’s currency is the Euro [EUR] (€) and Euro notes are issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 euros. Coins come in denominations of 1 and 2 euro, and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cent pieces.
All banks in Greece are open from Monday to Friday, 09:00am to14:00pm and are closed on Saturday and Sunday and Holidays. There mane currency exchange offices, especially in big cities that are open also during Saturday and Sunday and some of them are open 24 hours on 24 hours.
All major credit cards are accepted in Greece (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and Eurocard). Also you can use your debit cards as Visa Electron and Cirrus Cards both for shopping and withdrawal at ATMs network.
Major banks in Greece with extensive network of ATMs are the National Bank of Greece, Alpha Bank, Emporiki Bank (Commercial Bank of Greece), EFG Eurobank, Piraeus Bank and ATE (Agricultural Bank of Greece) .
